Why You Need a Default Grocery Store List On Your Smart Phone

The other day, I was talking to an acquaintance of mine about the mind and how the memory works. You see, it seems that there are certain things that we do by rote memorization, things that we have committed to our memory due to high repetition. This can be both good and bad, and I'd like to give you an example of one which is both good and bad. It has to do with your grocery store shopping list. Okay so let's talk.

Have you ever noticed that you know just about where everything is in your grocery store? Why do you think your memory is so good at that? It turns out that chimpanzees are quite good at knowing where their food is located also. In fact, in that regard their memories are almost infallible. You know why? It has to do with survival the fittest and genetics and it is something they are very good at because chances are their imprintation into their memory when it comes to food supply activates the strongest chemicals in their brains.

The human brain and the primate brain are very similar most all regards, especially in this regard when it comes to food and memory. Have you ever noticed when you need a certain item at the grocery store, a new item which is not on your normal last that you often forget it? And only occasionally do you forget items which are generally always on that list. If this is a common occurrence, or you understand what I'm talking about, then you are certainly not alone.

One solution to that would be to have a default grocery store list on your smart phone. Interestingly enough, there is probably an app for that, if not four or five for you to choose from. You should use that app to augment your memory and help you remember those few items which might be new that you have put onto your current mental list. It's much easier to remember just a couple of items that are different than usual, and therefore you don't have to make a whole grocery list because you already have the standard items already written down on your smart phone, easily accessible.

In that case you only need to write down two or three items, but as you write down those two or three items, that also will trigger a memory event in your mind so you probably won't need a written list anyway. Although there is a bit of science, and evolutionary genetics in this concept of having a default grocery store list, it is one of the simplest things you can do to make your life easier while shopping. Therefore I thought you should know. Please consider all this and think on it.
